    Pupil Advocate Groups

    At Shacklewell, we value the positive contributions children can make to school life. We encourage our pupils to play an active role in decisions and empower them to have an impact on the school community.

    What are the benefits?
    • children's voices are listened to and acted upon;
    • adults and children collaborate for school improvement;
    • pupils develop leadership and organisational skills which benefit them in later life;
    • a sense of ownership, pride and self-esteem is fostered;
    • children learn what it means to be an active citizen and how to positively contribute to their community.

    This year the children from Year 1–6 are part of our community facing, whole school project - 'Here to be Heard'. Each week, the children gather in their chosen group to tackle a wider issue in society, which includes;

    • Here to combat loneliness - making things better for people who are lonely;
    • Here to report the truth - tackling fake news and being reporters;
    • Here to combat the cost of living - making things easier for people who struggle with money;
    • Here to help our health and wellbeing - making people feel better;
    • Here to save the planet - thinking about plants and animals;
    • Here to fight for respect and tolerance - educating people on more positive language and choices, in real life and online.
